Despicable Me 3 Trailer – Review

So, the new Despicable Me 3 trailer came out yesterday and it’s already garnered 1.5 million views on MovieClip Trailers YouTube channel.

For those who’ve been living under a rock or on Mars, Despicable Me is the wildly successful adventures of an evil villain named Gru, voiced by Steve Carell of The Office fame, and his Minions, who also had a wildly successful movie of their own.  This is the third installment of the Despicable Movie franchise however and this time they are introducing one “rad” villain; Balthazar Bratt.  Voiced by Trey Parker, of South Park fame, Balthazar appears to be a super villain who is, apparently, stuck in the 80’s.  Big hair, shoulder pads on his jacket, moonwalking, and 80’s style music was his big introduction in the trailer.

The trailer also shows Gru as more of a crime fighter in this installment instead of causing the crime himself.  This is a turn from the first film and also, the second one a bit. The trailer is 2 minutes and 30 seconds long but not a whole lot is shown about the movie in general.  This seems to be more of an introduction of who the bad guy is going to be in the film as opposed to giving you an actual look into what the film will be about.  In the trailer, Gru is trying to stop Balthazar from stealing a very large diamond off of a large ship only to get entangled in bubble gum, the weapon of choice of Mr. Bratt, and hanging off the side of the boat, naked (minus the gum bikini) and floating by a birthday party where the attendees start to laugh and take pictures and videos.

I was a huge fan of the first movie and thought the second one was pretty good too.  Minions is absolutely hilarious as well and I do love the Minions, despite people misusing them in Facebook posts showing a funny saying to deep thought provoking quotes, but this one felt a little flat to me.  Again, the trailer doesn’t give a whole lot of information so maybe there will be more to love later on as we get closer to the release date of Summer 2017 but I’m a little less pumped about this one that I was about all the previous incarnations of the franchise.

However, this is just my opinion and you can form your own by watching the trailer below.  Agree or disagree?  Let us know in the Facebook comments!
